What is Di-Ammonium Hydrogen Phosphate (DAP)?

Diammonium phosphate, or diammonium phosphate, or ammonium hydrogen phosphate, is a chemical compound with the formula (NH4)2HPO4. It is a salt of ammonia NH3 and phosphoric acid H3PO4, consisting of ammonium cations NH4 + and hydrogen phosphate anions HPO42–. It forms as a crystalline powder when two concentrated solutions of ammonia and phosphoric acid are mixed with ammonium phosphate (NH4) 3PO4 and monoammonium phosphate NH4H2PO4, depending on the concentration. Relative in ammonia and phosphoric acid.

What is di-Ammonium hydrogen phosphate used for?

-Agronomic use

In agriculture, diammonium phosphate is also referred to indifferently as DAP (from the English di-ammonium phosphate) or 18-46-0 (18% N, 46% P2O5, 0% K2O). It dissolves very easily in water to give a weakly basic aqueous solution with a pH between 7.6 and 8.2 for a concentration of 100 g DAP per liter of water.

-Fertilizer

It is mainly used as a fertilizer and as a flame retardant for wood (e.g. in forest fire fighting). It is also used as a source of nitrogen and phosphorus for yeast cultivation, as a soldering flux, or as a catalyst in the production of aminoplasts.

- Attractant for insect traps

Diammonium phosphate is used in a 40 g/l solution in olive fly traps (Bactrocera olea) made with a recovered PET bottle (Olipe trap).

-Other applications

As a catalyst in the production of aminoplasts, for the chrome coloring of wool and as part of special glasses and enamels. In analysis, it is used in the separation process to detect magnesium ions.
